About The Role We are seeking a dedicated in-house Controller to own the accounting function end-to-end. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be the "institutional memory" of the company’s finances. This role is designed for a precision-minded professional who finds fulfillment in technical accounting and building lasting, clean systems.

You will partner with a fractional CFO who handles high-level strategy, allowing you to focus on accounting excellence. Success in this role means providing the CEO with absolute confidence in the accuracy of the numbers through impeccable monthly closes and rigorous reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Financial Oversight: Manage the full-cycle accounting process, including a timely month-end close (under 10 days), financial statement preparation, and variance commentary.
  • Technical Revenue Accounting: Oversee complex revenue recognition and deferred revenue across multiple channels, including subscriptions, gift cards, platform credits, and enterprise prepayments.
  • Operations & Reconciliations: Manage AR/AP, payroll coordination, sales tax compliance, and reconciliations across a hybrid inventory model (owned and dropship).
  • Impact & Liability Tracking: Collaborate on "Cause Partner" liability accounting to track the financial flow of charitable impact distinct from standard AP.
  • Management Accounting: Develop product-line P&Ls and customer profitability reporting for key accounts to provide actionable business insights.
  • Process Documentation: Build and maintain SOPs, close checklists, and a comprehensive chart of accounts to ensure institutional knowledge remains within the company.
  • Audit & Tax Support: Lead coordination with outside CPAs for tax compliance and maintain documentation for B Corp and LLC partnership requirements.
Competencies And Qualifications Must-Have
  • 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience (exceptional candidates with 5+ years and heavy deferred revenue experience will be considered).
  • Advanced Technical Skills: Deep expertise in deferred revenue and revenue recognition in multi-channel businesses (Subscriptions, E-commerce, B2B).
  • Software Fluency: Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online and familiarity with a modern finance tech stack.
  • Inventory Experience: Proven experience in product-based industries with inventory management complexity.
  • Management Accounting: Ability to produce actuals-based profitability reports and driver-based reporting.
  • Active CPA license or international equivalent.
Nice-to-Have
  • Experience working within a B Corp, social enterprise, or LLC partnership structure.
  • Experience managing procurement platform onboarding (e.g., Ariba, Oracle, Coupa).
