About the Role We are seeking an experienced Senior Gameplay Engineer to join our team in developing an original, non-violent MMORPG. As a Senior Gameplay Engineer, you will play a crucial role in building and maintaining gameplay and content systems, as well as data-driven tooling in Unreal Engine. Your primary focus will be on the instant-to-instant or "game-feel" aspects of the project, working closely with the design team and the rest of the engineering group to translate designs into polished player experiences and high-performance client and server code. Key Responsibilities Design, implement, and maintain gameplay mechanics, systems, and tools to ensure a high-quality player experience Collaborate with the design team to translate game designs into functional and engaging gameplay experiences Work closely with the engineering team to ensure seamless integration of gameplay systems with other components of the game Optimize gameplay performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks and issues as needed Develop and maintain data-driven tooling to support gameplay development and iteration Participate in code reviews, ensuring high-quality, maintainable, and efficient code Stay up-to-date with industry trends, technologies, and best practices, applying this knowledge to continuously improve our gameplay engineering capabilities Requirements To be successful in this role, you will need to have: Proven experience as a gameplay engineer, with a focus on moment-to-moment gameplay (e.g., controls, character, camera) Shipped at least one multiplayer project, with a strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities of multiplayer game development Strong C++ programming and debugging skills, with experience working in Unreal Engine Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with remote team members A deep understanding of game engine components and architecture, with experience working on complex gameplay systems Nice to Have While not essential, the following skills and experiences would be highly desirable: Animation programming experience, with a focus on creating engaging and realistic character animations Experience shipping a title that supported touch input, as well as keyboard and mouse Experience building data-driven tooling in collaboration with designers Previous live service development experience, with a understanding of the challenges and opportunities of supporting a live game Experience with automated testing, with a focus on ensuring the quality and stability of our gameplay systems Career Growth and Learning Opportunities At Spry Fox, we are committed to supporting the growth and development of our team members.
