About AI Training Work
AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Contributors create examples, demonstrate workflows, and evaluate model outputs so AI systems can better understand tasks and produce dependable results.
In this role, your mechanical CAD knowledge will help train and assess computer-use AI systems. You will work with realistic FreeCAD scenarios and provide detailed evidence of what successful computer interaction and engineering-quality modeling should look like.
- Remote work using a computer, FreeCAD, and screen-recording software
- Flexible contractor schedule with a commitment of 20 or more hours per week
- Direct contribution to cutting-edge computer-use AI development
The FreeCAD AI Training Specialist Role
OpenTrain is recruiting a FreeCAD Computer-Use AI Training Specialist to create expert demonstrations and objective evaluation data for computer-use AI systems. You will design realistic parametric CAD tasks, complete them in FreeCAD, capture the sequence of actions and interface state, preserve relevant files before and after the work, and define repeatable criteria for evaluating results.
- Role type: Remote, part-time contractor
- Experience level: Listed as entry level, with substantial FreeCAD expertise required
- Time requirement: 20 or more hours per week
- Advertised rate: Up to $20 per hour
- Working language: English
What You'll Do
You will create production-realistic task briefs and complete the associated FreeCAD work while preserving engineering intent in the model tree. Your work may cover dimensioned drawings, spreadsheet-driven parameters, assemblies, TechDraw sheets, manufacturing preparation, and geometry exchange workflows.
You will also record complete demonstrations, document reproducible workflows in clear English, define dimensional and structural success criteria, and review submitted traces for realism, completeness, step-to-action mapping, and model quality.
- Build parts, sketches, assemblies, drawings, and other FreeCAD deliverables
- Create tasks from dimensioned drawings and spreadsheet-driven parameters
- Capture action sequences and relevant interface states
- Preserve files before and after completing tasks
- Evaluate traces against objective CAD and workflow rubrics
- Keep recordings free of personal information and confidential geometry
- Use approved applications and complete work using your own expertise
Requirements
This role requires practical experience in mechanical design, product development, manufacturing engineering, or a comparable CAD-focused role. Genuine proficiency in FreeCAD Sketcher and Part Design is essential, as are strong parametric modeling fundamentals and robust feature-tree practices.
You should be able to troubleshoot constraint-solver failures, broken feature references, and non-manifold or self-intersecting geometry. Clear technical documentation and consistent application of detailed evaluation rubrics are also important.
- Genuine proficiency in FreeCAD Sketcher and Part Design
- Strong parametric modeling and feature-tree practices
- Experience creating mechanical CAD models from dimensioned drawings
- Experience with spreadsheet-driven parameters, assemblies, TechDraw, or geometry exchange workflows
- Ability to diagnose constraint-solver failures and broken feature references
- Ability to identify problematic, non-manifold, or self-intersecting geometry
- Working knowledge of at least two additional FreeCAD workbenches
- Familiarity with STEP, IGES, BREP, STL, and mesh workflows
- B2-level English or higher for clear, reproducible documentation
- Ability to run FreeCAD and screen-recording software on Windows 11, Ubuntu X11, or macOS
FreeCAD Workbench Knowledge
In addition to Sketcher and Part Design, you are expected to have working knowledge of at least two additional FreeCAD workbenches. Your experience should support realistic task creation, reliable modeling, and objective verification of completed work.
- Assembly
- TechDraw
- Draft
- Spreadsheet
- FEM
- CAM/Path
Location, Schedule, and Contract Details
This is a remote, flexible-hour contractor role available to candidates in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the Philippines, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam. The role requires at least 20 hours per week.
- Employment type: Contractor and part time
- Location: Remote in eligible countries
- Minimum time commitment: 20 or more hours weekly
- Advertised compensation: Up to $20 per hour
