SEO Specialist (Lead Role) – (AU Shift – Home Based)

WE’RE HIRING THE LEAD SEO SPECIALIST IN OUR TEAM

We’re looking for an experienced, hands-on SEO specialist who can independently assess a campaign, determine what matters, set the strategy, prioritise the work and guide delivery.

This is not a traditional SEO Manager role, and it is not a task based SEO position.

You’ll remain hands-on across campaign analysis, keyword strategy, page mapping, competitor research, technical SEO, content direction, performance analysis, and AI-assisted SEO workflows. You’ll also guide and delegate work across the broader SEO delivery team.

We need someone who can look at a client campaign and determine what should happen, why it matters, what can realistically be delivered within the retainer, and what needs to change when performance is not moving in the right direction.

The focus is better visibility, more qualified enquiries and stronger commercial outcomes.

--------------------------------

ABOUT THE BUSINESS

We are an established Australian digital marketing agency working with SMEs across service-based businesses, trades, professional services, local businesses and ecommerce.

Our SEO model is built around discovery, strong foundations, commercial page optimisation, content growth, authority building, local SEO, technical SEO and emerging AI search opportunities.

We use data, AI, automation, and structured workflows to improve the delivery of SEO, but strong SEO judgment still sits behind every campaign.

--------------------------------

THE ROLE

You’ll own the SEO thinking and direction across assigned client campaigns.

That includes:

  • Understanding the client’s business, services, locations, competitors and commercial goals.
  • Identifying the pages and search opportunities that matter most.
  • Developing keyword, page and content strategies.
  • Identifying technical, authority, local SEO and content gaps.
  • Building practical campaign priorities and roadmaps.
  • Prioritising work based on expected impact, campaign stage, available retainer time and commercial value.
  • Reviewing campaign performance and adjusting strategy when results are not moving in the right direction.
  • Guiding and delegating work across the SEO delivery team.
  • Reviewing important outputs and maintaining quality.

You are not expected to complete every SEO task yourself.

You are expected to know what needs to happen, why it matters, what should happen first and whether the campaign is moving in the right direction.

--------------------------------

WHAT YOU’LL WORK ACROSS

*SEO Strategy and Commercial Growth

SEO strategy sits at the centre of the role. You’ll be responsible for understanding the client’s commercial priorities, identifying the strongest search opportunities and turning that into a clear campaign direction.

  • Keyword research and keyword to page mapping.
  • Commercial and revenue generating page optimisation.
  • Search intent, content gaps and cannibalisation.
  • Site structure and internal linking.
  • Content strategy across service pages, location pages, articles, FAQs and supporting resources.
  • Competitor and SERP analysis.

*Technical SEO, Analytics and Tracking

You’ll be the senior technical SEO and measurement resource within the team.

You should be confident working hands on across:

  • Technical SEO diagnostics and implementation direction.
  • GA4 setup, analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Google Tag Manager setup, event tracking and debugging.
  • Google Search Console diagnostics and performance analysis.
  • Conversion and event tracking.
  • Crawlability, indexing, canonicals, redirects and sitemaps.
  • Schema and structured data.
  • Site architecture, page speed and mobile usability.
  • Identifying whether performance issues are related to SEO, tracking, website implementation or another technical issue.
  • Guiding developers or internal team members on required fixes where needed.

We are not looking for someone who simply runs tools and exports issues. You need to understand what is actually affecting performance, what needs to be fixed and what does not warrant campaign time.

*Local and Authority SEO

You’ll also work across:

  • Google Business Profile strategy and optimisation.
  • Location pages and local search opportunities.
  • Citations, reviews and NAP consistency.
  • Local schema and relevance signals.
  • Backlink profiles and competitor authority gaps.
  • Link quality, anchor text and authority opportunities.
  • Identifying where local and authority work should sit within the broader campaign strategy.

*AI Workflows and AI Search

AI is becoming an important part of both how SEO is delivered and how people discover businesses.

You should be confident using tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini or similar within practical SEO workflows, including:

  • Research and competitor analysis.
  • Keyword clustering and opportunity analysis.
  • Content planning and briefing.
  • SERP and page analysis.
  • QA and optimisation support.
  • Documentation and reporting support.
  • Process improvement and workflow development.

You should understand where AI can improve speed, quality and efficiency, where human SEO judgement is still required, and how to avoid relying on generic AI output.

You should also understand how search is evolving across Google and AI discovery platforms, including AI SEO, AEO, GEO and related search behaviour.

--------------------------------

PERFORMANCE AND PRIORITISATION

A major part of this role is taking accountability for campaign performance and deciding where campaign time should actually be spent.

You’ll need to:

  • Understand what is improving, declining or stalled.
  • Identify which pages are gaining traction and where opportunities are being missed.
  • Connect SEO performance back to leads, enquiries and commercial outcomes.
  • Make clear calls on what should happen now, what can wait and what is not worth doing.
  • Work within campaign budgets and available retainer time.
  • Adjust strategy based on performance rather than simply completing predetermined tasks.

--------------------------------

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • 5+ years of genuine hands on SEO experience.
  • 3+ years owning SEO strategy and campaign direction.
  • 3+ years working across multiple SEO campaigns in an agency environment.
  • Strong keyword research, keyword to page mapping and commercial SEO skills.
  • Strong hands-on technical SEO capability.
  • Strong hands-on expertise across GA4, Google Tag Manager and Google Search Console, including tracking, troubleshooting and measurement.
  • Strong on-page, local and off-page SEO knowledge.
  • Strong competitor and SERP analysis skills.
  • Strong practical use of AI within SEO workflows.
  • Ability to prioritise work based on business value, opportunity, available resources and expected impact.
  • Strong written English and documentation skills.
  • Comfortable guiding and delegating work while remaining hands-on.
  • Highly organised, self motivated and effective in a remote work environment.

This is not a development role for someone looking to step up into an SEO strategy role.

We are looking for someone who is already operating at this level and can take genuine ownership of campaign direction.

--------------------------------

TOOLS

Our core environment includes:

  • SEMrush
  • Screaming Frog
  • Google Search Console
  • GA4
  • AccuRanker
  • Google Business Profile
  • Ahrefs or similar
  • Looker Studio
  • BrightLocal or similar
  • AccuLLM
  • ChatGPT, Gemini and other AI tools
  • Google Workspace
  • Monday.com

You do not need experience with every individual platform.

We care more about whether you can interpret the information, identify what matters, and make the right SEO decisions.

--------------------------------

WHO THIS ROLE SUITS

This role suits someone who thinks strategically but still enjoys being inside the work.

You can investigate a campaign yourself, make prioritisation calls, guide other team members and take accountability for the SEO direction.

It will not suit someone who only wants to complete assigned tasks, export audits and reports, upload content, build links or work through predetermined checklists.

It will also not suit someone looking for a purely managerial role where the hands on SEO work sits entirely with other people.

--------------------------------

BENEFITS

  • Competitive salary.
  • Permanent work from home setup.
  • Australian business hours.
  • Paid time off.
  • Professional development opportunities.
  • Career growth within an established digital agency.
  • Exposure to modern SEO, AI workflows and emerging AI search strategies.

--------------------------------

HOW TO APPLY

Please apply with your resume and include:

  • A short summary of your SEO experience.
  • An example of a campaign where you personally owned the SEO strategy. Tell us what you identified, what you prioritised, why you prioritised it and what happened.
  • A 100 to 200-word explanation of how you decide what SEO work should be prioritised first.
  • A 100 to 200-word explanation of how you are currently using AI within your SEO workflows and how you think AI platforms are changing search.

Please only apply if you have genuine hands on experience owning an SEO strategy across multiple client campaigns.

If your experience is primarily task execution, content uploading, link building or running automated audits, this role will not be the right fit.

We want to understand how you think, how you make decisions and how you turn SEO activity into stronger commercial outcomes.
